Ain’t It Cold!

I’m back in Glasgow after a long drive and thankful I avoided all the dangerous looking snow! I’m busy getting ready for this weekend at Glasgow’s Tall Ship – Glenlee. If you’ve never been to see the Tall Ship it’s well worth getting wrapped up warm and taking a look. I will be selling my woven goodies at the craft fair – lots of scarves to warm those cold necks, entry is free this weekend and there is even the chance for children to meet Santa (small charge applies). Let’s hope the snow holds off…

Thanks! @GlasgowCraftFairs

I’d like to thank Glasgow Craft Fairs for a successful, well organised event last Saturday. I met lots of talented people and came away with some great ideas to use at my next craft fair which is at The Tall Ship on the weekend of November 27th/28th – 11am to 4pm. Busy busy busy! This week I’m heading south and looking forward to a visit to The Handweavers Studio and Gallery in London. I might even treat myself to some of their lovely looking yarn.

Merchant Square Market

I just got emailed this and thought I’d share as I’ll be there in December – See dates below! Also a quick reminder that I will be at Hillhead Library this Saturday – a chance to get the first pick of my work including scarves, cushions and Christmas Cards.

Weaving Process

I’ve just been looking at my Aunt Fran Curran’s  Hartford Artisans Weaving Center website. Here’s a photo of the weaving centre I took when I was visiting, as you can see it is a fantastic place packed full of looms.

I found this page explaining the weaving process. I thought I’d post it up for those who are interested in finding out what is involved in weaving from winding the warp to beating the weft.

I am also going to use my blog to document my own weaving process from the start to finish of a project. To start with here’s a picture of a baby wolf loom with all the parts labelled. This is the sort of loom I have although mine does not have the castle shelf.

New England Weavers

Here’s a post for my weaving friends in America and in particular NEWS. I went to their weaving conference in July 2009 where I met so many amazing people and enjoyed every minute. Here’s a photo of one  my weaving classes:

Each loom was set up with a different weave structure and then we rotated round the room using every loom. In this way by the end of the day we were able to take home our own sample of weaving from each loom. It was also a fun day because I got to try out lots of different looms! I still use these samples to help me design new work.
